Functional description:

The 24/12 converter is designed to create a power supply with a 13.6V DC voltage to power appliances intended for an on-board 12V nominal voltage in devices and vehicles with an on-board network nominal voltage of 24V DC. The output power of the converter is 247W, i.e. a maximum continuous current output of 19A at a voltage of 13V. It also has a low-power constant 12V voltage supply with a max. load of 50mA designed primarily for backing up the memory of the car radio when the main power supply is switched off as the ignition key is off. The converter is designed for use in the 24V power supply network of vehicles or machines with the negative pole connected to ground.

In the case of the power output the output voltage is set at approximately 13.6V, which is the voltage of the car's on-board network when in operation, at which, for example, the car radio can play at maximum power. The voltage for backing up the station memory and the radio settings is a stable 12V and, like the main voltage, is designed to be low-power so as use as little battery power as possible when the vehicle is at a standstill. The converter circuits are specially designed so that the total power used by the converter when idle does not exceed 4mA and thus does not disrupt the main or auxiliary output voltage.

Due to the high power of the converter and the consequent load on the connector, the main output is split into two branches, each of which is separately protected against overload or short circuit by a resettable 15A fuse. The auxiliary output is protected in the same manner, except that the resettable fuse is 50mA. The converter is also protected against overvoltage peaks by a transil that is capable of suppressing a normalised 6600W pulse lasting 10/1000ms. Its robust design makes it suitable for protecting sensitive electronics in power systems, where voltage peaks may occur when inductive loads and lights are switched, i.e. mainly in vehicles and machines.
